Here's where it gets a little dicey. Isn't it illegal to photograph "human remains" on Great Lakes shipwrecks? But without photos, or removing the bones, which may be illegal even if not human, how would we know? Hypothetically.

: : I have a "hypothetical" question. Lets say there is a diver diving an obscure, little explored wreck. Under some debris(mast, logs), he(or she) finds what appears to be a very old bone, possibly a hip bone. There is no way to verify it is human, could be anything, including human. Any ideas on how to identify this bone without removing it? Or any authorities that should be notified? Hypothetically of course.

: I would recommend going back and photographing the item and taking it to appropriate experts for an opinion. This is hypothetical, of course.
