It's fun to think back with nostalgia about "the good old days." However, I'd be willing to bet that those pioneers would trade in everything for what we have today. Living in those days, while it might seem romantic to us, was nothing but sheer hardship. I recommend the hard-to-find book by Otto Bettman titled, "The Good Old Days, They Were Terrible," where he dubunks many myths about life in the 1890's.
