My Great Grandfather was a Great Lakes Captain on the steamer Pawnee among others. I often wonder what his life was really like.
I would like to believe that I too could have been a Great Lakes Captain. Much of the career I would have loved, but being away from his family took it's tole. I am not sure I could have dealt with that part of the job.
I think it would have great to live in the day of the schooners. If they only had invented scuba back then....
