: : I was wondering if there is anyone who knows when the program great lakes indepth was airing...??? And also looking for footage of the superior city after it sank...

: -- Hi Rob-

: All PBS stations have the option of airing reruns of Great Lakes Indepth.. but there won't be any new programs. A lack of sponsorship doomed the program after 26 episodes. All back issues are available online at www.lakefury.com but we never dove the Superior City. All wrecks in the series (aside from the Fitz/Morrell/Bradley) were within sport diving limits. As you know, the Superior City is below that. An excellent (emmy award winning) program on that wreck is available through the Whitefish Point Museum. My only criticism is that it contains footage of a lost sailor being man handled by divers. With so much emphasis being placed on making the Fitzgerald 'gravesite' off limits.. it seems hypocritical at the least.

: Ric

Just about every wreck we dive these days are "gravesites" seems to me the hypocracy has been well established. Why is the fitz any different from others? Just recently, I was diving a wreck that also lost all hands, and was signifigantly older, yet my diving there is encouraged rather then strictly denied. What is the differance? If it is because the wreck, excuse me, grave, is rather new-then I must bring up the point that "back in the day" they would dive the wrecks as soon as they could find them to salvage the cargo!
Its just that hypocracies annoy me...
