: Where is the best place to launch a 24' boat near the Mackinaw straits? I only have a 2 wheel drive vehicle and the boat weighs 5000 lbs. I would also like to sleep on the boat overnight (maybe the island), and still have access to a good dive shop for tank fills. Does the Island have a horse driven compressor?

Eric, Over the bridge in St. Ignace there is a nice, new public boat launch behind Shepler's ferry dock. Across the small bay there is the city marina, which is also nice and usually has slips. There is a dive shop/air fills in St. Ignace, which is located at the Star Line ferry main dock, across the street from the Driftwood restuarant. (sp?) St. Ignace has a website that may be helpful. I hope this helps. Good luck and safe diving.
