: I know there are a lot better-qualified people to reply, but I'll attempt a couple things.

: If you aren't aware, the America is still a very-much intact shipwreck lying submerged at the entrance to Rock Harbor in Isle Royale. Its bow is only a couple feet deep, while its stern is over 100'. When it ran aground in 1928, it was above water, but eventually slid down a slope. It has been so popular a site with divers, that volunteers have had to do repair work to keep it intact. It is protected as part of the National Park.

: There is much information out there about it. Check Yahoo under Isle Royle shipwrecks." A recommended book is "Isle Royale Shipwrecks" by Frederick Stonehouse through Avery Color Studios.

We are the group working on the America in North Gap at Isle Royale. Check us out at www.glsps.org
On the web we have some of the work that we have been doing on the ship and if you are interested we have a book for sale about the America. We will be at the Ghost Ship Festival this weekend if you want to pick up a copy.
