Hey Charlie:

I am an underwater videoer and have often thought of a similar question. Based on some of the video that I have looked at, upon surfacing; I have noticed two things. There appear to be very few zebra mussells below 90 feet. I have been on a few wrecks in the Kingston Ontario area in Lake Ontario, which were almost "void" of the little suckers. I have also noticed that there appears to be a "flavour of choice" on the part of the mussells. I'm not sure, but it appears that mussells don't like to "stick" to teak wood. Some of the decks on the wrecks that I've been on have mussells all over the railings or sides, but the deck work is totally clear. A great example of this is the wreck of the Olive Branch, again in Lake Ontario in the Belleville area off "The Ducks". I don't know if this sheds any light for you or not, but I for one am still curious!!

Thx dmc
