: What was the first great lakes submarine wreck, where was it at,history, time it sank, and anything on submarine wrecks.
The first submarine wreck of which I am aware was the Philips submarine which went down while being tested prior to a salvage attempt on the wreck of the steamer Atlantic.
There was a discussion of this incident on this list about six months ago.
I also know of a German WWI U-Boat which was captured and towed around the great lakes on a war bond drive.
It was sunk in Lake Michigan by the Willamette (sp?) in Naval gunnery practice in the 1920s.
This is a popular dive site.
You can find more on the Philips sub at "http://www.alcheminc.com".
