Chris Columbus did have a major accident.. and it's well documented in photos. It was eventually scrapped though.
We profiled whalebacks on the TV show.. divers can tour the sunken Colgate (Lake Erie), the Thomas Wilson (off Duluth) or the Sagmore off the Soo. There are two 'monitor' class ships that look like whalebacks.. but to my knowledge the Andaste and Choctaw (Lakes Mich and Huron) haven't been found yet.
