My thanks to Jim,and the others who responded to my query. This information gives me a good start!I would always like to know anything more that anyone may know about the whaleback "C.C."
Thanks! -=Matthew=-

PS: I would like to visit the Milwaukee museum again some day! It's been 20 years since I was there... -=M=-

: : Chris Columbus did have a major accident.. and it's well documented in photos. It was eventually scrapped though.

: : We profiled whalebacks on the TV show.. divers can tour the sunken Colgate (Lake Erie), the Thomas Wilson (off Duluth) or the Sagmore off the Soo. There are two 'monitor' class ships that look like whalebacks.. but to my knowledge the Andaste and Choctaw (Lakes Mich and Huron) haven't been found yet.
: : Hope this helps

: There are many published stories and photos of the Columbus. Perhaps a good place for you to start learning about her is the book "Red Stacks Over the Horizon, The story of the Goodrich Steamboat Line." The Columbus was scrapped in Manitowoc in 1936, but a few artifacts, including a large ships wheel, remain in the marine collection at the Milwaukee Public Library. They also have a nice painting of her there and in their ship files they probably have several photos. You can also order photos of her from the Historical Collections of the Great Lakes at Bowling Green State University.
