: The "Senator" was a freighter modified to carry automobiles. She was carrying 241 Nash cars from Kenosha when she was rammed and sunk off Manitowoc in Lake Michigan on October 30, 1929 by the freighter "Marquette." I don't know if the wreck has ever been found or if divers can reach it.


Don't forget about the Lakeland off of Sturgeon Bay, WI., it had Nash and Kissel autos. One was recovered, but severly damaged in the process in the 70s. Tough wreck to dive, someone met their maker there last summer. I have only been there once, but confined my dive to the upperworks, and never saw a car, but there are still a bunch there, which by default now belong to the WI. DNR
