: It appears that they've found the Linda E. very close to where she was last reported. Two Navy minesweepers on a recruitment tour of the Great Lakes were asked to help search for her and located her off Port Washington in deep water. Preliminary suspicions appear to be that she was hit by a barge. I was frankly surprised that she was found because many decent sidescan units had previously swept the area where she was found without success. In any event, I'm certainly happy for the families that the mystery is over.

About a year ago an Aegis class cruiser stopped in Cleveland and was open for tours. While on board I happened to meet one of the anti submarine warfare types. I mentioned that we do shipwreck hunts off Cleveland in about 80 feet of water and asked how long it would take their vessel to locate such a wreck if I got them within a couple miles of it. The ASW guy thought for a second and responded "about 10 minutes". He didn't seem to be kidding.
