Most of the ports you are looking for were docks made either for loading lumber or fuel. If you wish to include these ports, you might search through some materials on lumberjacks or railroads which usually had some terminus near the docks. Another source would be ghost towns. There are several books on the Michigan side, but I do not know of any for Ontario.
