The plane carried 58 persons and was en route from new York to Minneapolis. It disappeared early Saturday morning and was believed to have exploded in midair during a thunderstorm.
Only small fragments, none larger than 12" were ever found. Pieces of bodies and wreckage were picked up all along the lakeshore from South haven to Holland. Beaches in South Haven were closed when "parts of bodies began to wash in among the swimmers". Quite a shocking story.
Any wreckage is believed to be in about 200 feet of water
