i have spent a lot of time researching this sub. I have letters that indicate the sub was little more than a floating shell at the time of the sinking newspaper at the time say the sub was stripped removing all machinery and brasswork. Another letter i have is from an employee of tha salvage yard that did the stripping. he claims to have sent "Three Railroad Boxcars" of equipment of the sub to specifically remembers the diesel engine and "several tons" of fittings.
