As there were several boats called Sea Bird, I am assuming you are referring to the sidewheel steamer once owned by the Goodrich Steamship Company that caught fire in April 1868 and went down with nearly 100 lost lives off Illinois' North Shore. It and other Goodrich boats are referred to in the out-of-print book "Red Stacks Over the Horizon." A few years ago I assisted the Underwater Archeological Society of Chicago in researching and producing a slide show about the Seabird, which is still a diveable wreck.
