I have placed a great deal of info about the wreck
online at http://www.execpc.com/~bbaillod/elginhx.html.
Beyond this, I list several excellent references for
further research. I have read an account of a
mass burials of unidentified bodies following the
Lady Elgin disaster. However, I believe the grave
which was in Illinois was exhumed and most of the
bodies were taken to Milwaukee and reburied. As to
the crew, I am unaware of their final disposition.
However, I'm certain than many did find their way to
area cemeteries. You may wish to locate a copy of
Scanlon's "Lady Elgin Disaster" as it goes into much
greater detail on this.

: I just found this site today, August 2nd, '99. I
: am interested as the Lady Elgin accident occurred
: near the area of some family and Catholic parish
: genealogy research I am doing. Any documentation
: of the burial site for the bodies of unclaimed
: victims would be of interest. It has been said
: that many, particularly Catholic crewmen, were
: buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, West Lake Forest,
: IL. This, by the way is a very small cemetery.
: Other reports claim they were buried in the towns
: along the shoreline. The St. Patrick site is
: unmarked and claimed to be in the northeast part
: of the cemetery. The number buried has been
: estimated as high as 40. No record of any of
: this exists and I wondered if, in fact, there
: was any way of knowing if this could be true.
: Thanks!
