I just found this site today, August 2nd, '99. I
am interested as the Lady Elgin accident occurred
near the area of some family and Catholic parish
genealogy research I am doing. Any documentation
of the burial site for the bodies of unclaimed
victims would be of interest. It has been said
that many, particularly Catholic crewmen, were
buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, West Lake Forest,
IL. This, by the way is a very small cemetery.
Other reports claim they were buried in the towns
along the shoreline. The St. Patrick site is
unmarked and claimed to be in the northeast part
of the cemetery. The number buried has been
estimated as high as 40. No record of any of
this exists and I wondered if, in fact, there
was any way of knowing if this could be true.
Thanks!
