A quick look at my MapSource and I find three areas of interest pretty much in the middle of the channel between Gills Rock & St Martin Is. One is 7' another 8' and the third 13'. Then there is the mile long shoal exdtending SE from St. Martin Is. that would make approaching from the NE very risky at night since the St Martin light is on the NE side of the island.
That said it looks a lot easier to navigate Deaths Door than the Gravely Islands/Poverty Is. Passage NE of St. Martin. I wonder if the Door Penninsula got it's name from this passage?
