People,
This article is indeed slanted, very poorly written and researched. It does not reflect the true occurrences as they took place. I find it extremely appalling that this reporter did not do his homework and has misrepresented the facts. For example, Attorney General Mike Cox was told of the intentional sinking of a vessel in Grand Traverse Bay along with the possible Griffon discovery in the upper peninsula. Senator McManus’s office was told of the sinking of a vessel, not Senator MacManus personally but her office. I myself telephoned her office and spoke with Trevor, the Senator’s aid on this very subject. People go back a month or two on this site and you shall find the good Senator’s remarks dealing with an underwater park. The intentional sinking of a vessel was part of this package.
The liability issue is a stumbling block (stalling tactic) brought up by Michigan’s Department (MDEQ) whose has no legal nor State authority in this matter. It is the sole responsibility of the Attorney General’s Office. Come on divers, anytime you go into the water you take a risk! A clean intentional sinking of a vessel will allow divers to safely train on a known sunken vessel and learn wreck diving skills. Hopefully when you venture out into the Lakes and discover a virgin wreck you will have the necessary skills to investigate.
I do not blame Greg nor any state official. I do however question the research and accuracy of this reporter’s story!! Remember the old adage, “Don’t believe everything you read!”
