Tim,
Interesting point. Why waste money and time on something that has already been surveyed? I would like to entertain what guidlines would need to be followed to justify funds for a project.
What consitiutes a survey on a wreck?
Where is the survey data stored/kept? on previous wrecks? (on a shelf, educational institution, bathroom shelf?)
I think (just me now) the wreck hunter shouldn't be paid by those funds (options might be availabkle for funding elsewhere) as this is searching for a wreck - however, once found, then prepare a concept paper or proposal to conduct a survey - this would be fundable.
Here's what is currently set in HB2429.
Fund for the management of the Great Lake State Park: Administration Maritime History Underwater archaeology Park and recreation planning enhancement of recreation opportunities intentional sinking of a vessel tourism research and marketing heritage education and... law enforcement.
So, you're on the committee... How would you like to see the funds disbursed?
