Dave, There have been plenty of wrecks on January 1. Here are some New Year Day losses for you. 1893, steambarge Lothair burned at the dock on the Detroit River. 1894, Helen Taylor foundered near Michigan City, IN. 1896, the Salina caught fire and burned in the St, Claire River. 1905, the little tug Avis sank at South Manitou island. 1937, the Marold II blowed up real good near Beaver Island. 2006, Trump Casino boat sank at Gary Indiana....well, it could happen. There were a lot more wrecks during the first week of January. The most famous of all the January wrecks would likely be the Frontenac, January 8, 1679.
Happy New Year! Party On, Jim
