Dave: I've always found terraserver to be useful for "onshore" images, but way too dark to see much of anything over the water-- at least in the satelite images of Lake Michigan around here. Now that you point it out, I see the images up north are a lot lighter and some detail can be discerned.

Now that you got me started, it looks like I'll have to "walk" all the way around all the Great lakes and see what I can find through satelite imagry. By the way, the photos appear to be at least 6-8 years old judging by the changes in my city. As you well know, the shoreline changes almost weekly, so don't expect anything that shows on the photos to still be visible! But it would give you a good place to start.
