Hello Believers and Non-believers,
I recently attended the " Gales of November " show, and was very entertained with the presentations. I would rate it "an exceptional value " to the diving community.
Congratulations!!! To Jerry Eliason and Crew for your extraordinary wreck finds this Year. They certainly have had a most sucessful season by anyones standard, the TugThomas Friant, Sch Moonlight and the famous sail away " Benjamin Noble". Great Job Guys !!! Good Luck with finding the Robert Wallace next year.
Now, the not so good news.
Noaa gave a presentation on the last few years progress of the Thunder Bay Preserve. Pat Labadie was the spokesperson, He presented the past and future ambitions of NOAA. He announced the recent ground breaking for the NOAAs' new maritime center ( he didn't mention how many zero's that was going to cost ). He apprised us of the staffing and capital equipment expansion (new people with salaries, benefits and pension plans as only govt knows how to give, and a new boat for bouy placement in the preserve) ( again no mention of how many zeros that cost). Pat, described an expanded bouy system, to provide more non-destructive moorings for the existing wrecks outside of the shipping lanes ( again, a blank line item in the budget). Pat, also, gave credit to the volunteer group that surveyed a deep water wreck (185 ft of water, I believe) outside the preserve for NOAA. All of these things were expected with the take over of a state facility by the FEDS who have OUR money to burn and our souls to enslave.
NOW THE BACK BREAKER............
NOAA IS GOING TO EXPAND THE FIEFDOM TO INCLUDE PRESQUE ISLE.............................
They're not asking for the populace to vote on it, after all they're the feds. Anyone remember what happened when the folks of Alpena voted and rejected the NOAA preserve take over, NOTHING, they took it over anyway. The state of Michigan Governor should be Hung or at least Fired for ignoring the voice of the people of Michigan on a locally voted issue But, the more important question is " What are you going to do about it ???
NOAA is part of the Dept of Commerce. The Dept of Commerce has a policy about private sector participation, anyone seen any of that ??? How about the way the survey contract was done??? Anyone see a contract bid or request for proposal ??? How about the 32 people (+) the ships cook (plus cooking staff)was making meals for??? How did they end up there??? Who paid them??? 28 Days of the Lake Guardian service time for $200,000.00 ( who believes this lie) ??? How about the time spend searching outside the preserve??? How about the lies about the results of the survey??? Anyone besides me notice the steel plate pattern on the side scan of the upside down wooden schooner with the steamer bow??? Anyone see a contract bid or request for proposal for the rov work??? How about the freebie by the diving community ( on a wreck outside the preserve and beyond NOAAs working capability), while, CHURM got a $25,000.00 deal ( New Orleans survey) in 15 ft of water??? What about NOAAs interest in wrecks outside the preserve??? Strange isn't it? or am I wrong!
Think people, the time to stop them is NOW!!! How many more MILLIONS FOR THE FEDERAL FEUDAL SYSTEM??? This isn't creeping federalism, its moving at the speed of light.
Anyone remember the first NOAA Marine Sanctuary, the Monitor. Americans were refused access to it (with criminal felony charges) for 16 years, in spite of pleads to photograph it and recover delicate artifacts because of its deteriorating condition. Then NOAA decided it was going to hell in a hand basket and had better do something. So, what was their solution 16 years later, recover the artifacts. Something the private sector had been saying for years. Now, they manage our Great Lakes Shipwrecks???
Wake up People, the crushing grip of govt is coming!!!
As Always, Willie W
