Guys I was reading where some early shipyards converted to making steamships out of wood instead of schooners for economic reasons, while others converted to steel hulls. One has to wonder how sea worthy they were with the percentage of them which were wrecked? Do you think it was economics or just a natural progression of early ship building & were some early steamers a fiasco! any opinions welcome. regards, Dave
