Since the half-life for carbon 14 is 5730 years. I don’t think it would not be suitable for dating wood from a shipwreck of about 100 years old. If you want to understand the process, find a college level text on modern physics. Saying that carbon dating is unreliable is completely missing the point. Science is like SCUBA gear: if you don’t know how to use it, you aren’t going to think it works very well.
