This question was posted a few years ago on the old newsgroup. The photo in Bowen's book is an error. It was not taken at Isle Royale at all. That photo is of another known wreck on the lower lakes. I'd have to look at back the old posts to see how that was arrived at, but I'm confident it is correct. There are a very limited number of wrecks at the Island and all are well known in the historical record. The photo shown in Bowen's books doesn't remotely resemble any location on the Island near a known wreck. I'm fairly sure the Bowen image is a misattribution.
