Mike, I use the Jetstream/Odin without the freeze cap. The only time I ever had any problem was a dive in 38 degree water. My buddy and I popped our heads up in an underwater diving bell for a quick chat. The bell was at a depth of 12'. I made the mistake of "freshening" the air by purging my reg. A thin layer of ice incased my first stage instantly. I didn't notice until we decided to leave. I inhaled(unlike Clinton) and blamo! Freefow. My buddy and I acsended to the surface without incident. Since then I have been in sub 40 degree water a few times, without any problems. The key is not to inhale from your reg until the first stage is completely submerged. I hope this helps.
