Our shipwreck management plan adopted each year before our searches states that we would delay putting divers on the wreck until we (or they) could perform a video survey of the site -- especially if it was beyond "diveable" depths. This one is nearly 300 feet deep.
The enforcement arm of the State of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has requested no diving until this is accomplished. They'd like an "evidentiary" video to document what's there for future proof if something comes up missing. We are attempting to cooperate, even though this has become a controversial issue in our group.
The weather sure played a part in delaying this type of video survey lately but, looking back with hindsight, we wasted a lot of time this summer waiting for a private ROV to become available. Hope to see you on the 8th.
