: : : : : Looking for information on the eastland ship wreck.

: : : : I am also looking for information on the eastland ship wreck. My Great-Grandmother survived that ship wreck and I know very little about the tragedy she went through. I would appreciate any information that anyone has. My G.Grandmother died before I was able to learn much from her. The only information I have is what was written in her obituary when she died a few years ago. Please help if you can

: : : My grandmother also was a survivor of the Eastland. The Eastland was to leave from Chicago to Michigan City, Indiana for a Western Electric picnic in the summer of 1915. I believe it was in July. The trip was just for a day. Early in the morning while still docked in the Chicago river the ship capsized and turned on its side. The lack of sufficient ballast was a theory of the cause. A boat was supposedly passing the ship and people on board were trying to get a look
: : : at it and swarmed to one side. The ship apparently listed to one side then the other before turning over on one side. I believe there were over 800 lives lost. I was told that a wreath appears near the sight every year, possibly put there by Western Electric. I just heard of a book on the subject available at http://www.amazon.com by George W. Hilton, called "Eastland: Legacy of the Titanic".

Hello, the information that you currently have on the Eastland is facinating. I was wondering if I could use it to update my "lost ship" files. My partner and I are trying to complete a database that we have been putting together with around 8,000 known vessels. All of them either lost or long past. The Eastland is one of these vessels. Unfortunately all we have are two images of her. is it possible that one of you might have another? Please, allow me to use the information you have provided at this site and if possible is there an address that all of you might provide me for writing to you about further details? these are all stories that I feel ought to be shared.
Please, let me know if I may use the above information.
