: : : : What I heard from the charter service is that this was a medical problem a "heart attack". He was a 56 year old experience diver using a rebreather who has dove for a number of years with this service.

: : : :
: : : : : DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE DEATH ON THE CEDARVILLE OVER THE WEEKEND WAS CAUSED FROM POOR JUDGEMENT OR MAYBE MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS . I HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT THE DIVER WAS SUPPOSSED TO BE AN EXPERIENCED DIVER . THE RADIO MADE ITR SOUND LIKE HE MAY HAVE BEEN DIVING WITH OUT A PARTNER .

: : :
: : : The diver was said to be rather independent and he was diving solo - although other divers had seen him on the wreck. As far as a medical problem, I think it is too early to say anything yet. The Cheybogan County Medical Ofice will have to make that determination and that information will be forth coming shortly.

: : Well put Larry - I had heard he was indendent also and that a local Medical office would be providing information soon. If you hear anything Larry please keep us updated. Thanks.

: From people I talked to this past weekend in the Straits, it seems that Robert Harris (victim on the Cedarville) died of a heart attack. The scene did seem to point to a medical problem and now it seems confirmed.

This week I spoke with Larry McElroy who confirmed reports that no autopsy on Harris was performed at request of his family. Therefore cause of death is unknown. He was carrying a downloadable dive computer. When downloaded, it showed that he dropped nearly straight down from the charter boat he was on. That is, whatever happened occurred at or near the surface. My wife Joy and I recovered his body and he was lying face up with his rebreather regulator in his mouth and no sign of distress (ie, face mask in place, octopus unused).
