I get tons of questions from students in Michigan, most of whom have been assigned to research a shipwreck by their teachers. I believe these research assignments are used to teach research methods and to teach writing. The topic of Great Lakes shipwrecks in and of itself would be appropriate for a small chapter in a state history curriculum, but should otherwise be little more than a seminar. I do agree that there is a tremendous interest among students in the topic and it's nice to see it worked into the curriculum.
: In visiting W. Michigan area schools I've noticed a total lack of knowledge and a great deal of interrest by the students on this topic it's our heritage, its to bad we can't get units on it, added to our states social studies objectives .
