You are mistaken when you assume that people "outside of the Great Lakes basin" think that the FITZ is the only shipwreck: in my travels to almost all of these "outside" states, as you call them, the name "Edmund Fitzgerald" is NOT a "household name"! In fact, very VERY few people had ever heard of the FITZGERALD!!
I think the majority of the "insiders" here have OVER-estimated the impact of G. Lightfoot's song.
It's a much bigger world outside of this "basin"!
