It's not unusual for more than one ship to have the same name. In David Syayze's shipwreck database (accessible through Brendon's site here), there is a listing of three in Lake Michigan alone, including the Michigan City, Indiana, propeller steamer of 1910 I mentioned. The file also refers to the one you mentioned. It was a Goodrich sidewheeler that sank in 1919 after losing control in a gale, crashing into a pier head and sinking. It says 29 of the 39 aboard died, most trapped belowdecks. The third was a sidewheeler that fell off its blocks in a Milwaukee drydock in 1896.
