Hello Gentleman,
My interests are not ships, I found your discussion because I had in my possession a photo album, with photos taken 1917 to 1919 around Halifax.
It includes 2 photos of captured UC-97, several photos of the Olympic, sister ship of Titanic, and photos of the Imo after its collision with the Mont-Blanc. I have spent a fascinating night researching the photos on the web

: Does anyone have photos or video, I also have some questions about divinf on a wreck at that depth and was wondering about its condition in fresh water. Scott

: : : U 97 put to sea on June 5 1943 . One day later she was attacked by aircraft near Haifa in the Mediterranean. U97 was wrecked and stranded on the beach. near Haifa.

: : Wrong war, Bill. UC-97 is a first generation U boat. Yes, the U-97 was sunk on 16 June, 1943 in Mediterranean, west of Haifa in position 33.00N, 34.00E by depth charges from an Australian Hudson aircraft (Sqdn 459/T). 27 dead and 21 survivors. However, the question was for the UC-97 from WWI which lies on the bottom of our Great Lake, Michigan. See there was another U-97 in World War One that boat was launched from its shipyard on 4 Apr, 1917 and commissioned into the Imperial Navy on 16 May, 1917. The Naval war in WWI was brought to an end with the Armistice signed on 11 Nov, 1918. Thus the US Navy sinking the boat in the vicinity of LAT 42"10' LON 087"20' as reported by Mr. Kohl. Now there has been some debate over the accuracy of these coordinates, as well as some controversy over their publication by A&T Recovery. Even our beloved Gary Gentile has something to say on this topic in an upcoming book on German U-Boats. :)
