My gggrandfather, Capt. William Hall, owned the schooner John Rae. She was originally John Housman (?), then John Rae (ca 1856) and sunk as Duncan City. She is reported to have sunk Summer Island, off Garden Island, Lake Michigan. I would really like any information that is available on her. I have a copy of Captain Hall's painting of her. The original was destroyed in a house fire. I think he received it when he purchased her. It names the various masts. I would like to know if there is a wreck or is the information I got on the shipwreck file from report only? He also owned the P.E. Young. She was (from the information I can find) a stonehook schooner. The family story tells of it being blown up in Toronto Harbour but I found information saying it was blown up at the CNE grounds as some kind of demonstration re: the sinking of the Maine. Thankyou for your time and looking forward to any information.
