My great-grandfather was one of those men who disappeared aboard those (American-built) French minesweepers. It was absolute catastrophe for my great-grandmother. Her husband's ship went missing. The agony she suffered was immense, not knowing the fate of her husband. Like tens of thousands of WWI widows, she suffered in anguish throughout her life. Having heard the story of the "complete disappearance" of the ship, I wonder if I'll ever know his final fate. I hope someone can keep me posted on any underwater searches for those ships.
