I found the Cleveland Herald 11/13/1883 article about the sinking of the John T Johnson. It went down just off Cleveland's East pier lighthouse (Wherever that was). The vessel was dragging anchor toward the rocks after losing all its canvas, so the vessel was intentionally scuttled to save the hull. The crew then climbed into the rigging and a lifesaving boat capsized while trying to reach them. A line was next shot from the breakwall into the vessel's rigging and the crew was thereby brought ashore. I'll post this information to our web site and send a photocopy of the article to David Swayze.
