I would like to share some information on the fatality on the Arabia. I was on that dive, on a private boat, at the time of the fatality. I was a witness.

I saw the charter boats come to a dive site and commandeer the mooring lines. The boat I was diving from, was moved while we had divers down (including myself). I had a charter boat go over the top of me, while I was decompressing. Two other divers, from my boat, blew their safety stop, because our boat was moved during their dive, and there was no tention on their mooring line. (We had o2 on board and immediately put them on it.)
We heard that another diver got "bent" during the recovery.
Here is the score: (2) divers almost killed, (2) divers almost "bent", (1) diver "bent", and (1) diver dead.
The charter boat operators were very arrogant toward us. They forced us to give up the mooring line, while we had divers down. (We were at the site first!)
I believe if the charter operation would have been better organized and staffed with better people, maybe some of these situations could have been avoided?

: Hi all,

: This has indeed been a sad weekend. I was up to Toby this weekend and had an
: opportunity to dive the Arabia yesterday but passed because I had to get
: back to Kingston. The rest of my dive party went out to dive the Arabia. All
: I heard was that there was a death and no further information. I almost
: choked when I got back and found out that Dave had died. I knew him
: moderately well. I agree with the sentiment that while I chose not to dive
: with him on philosophical reasons, out of the water he had a heart of gold
: and was a well respected family man. My condolences to his wife and child.

: Steve, I was at his wife's home just this afternoon, and got the details from her directly..
: The dive goes like this, apparently they were diving on a wreck called the king, whick is where Dave found a new wreck, name unknown, but does not
: matter. They were diving in teams of two for some reason they switched dive buds at the bottom, the other two stayed on the king and Dave and his newly
: switched bud went to run a line over to the new wreck, the guy he was with bolted to the surface getting somewhat bent, and Dave did'nt come up...
: another diver by the name of Dave Little went in to look for Dave and found him on the bottom, not breathing but with the regulator still in his mouth,
: he was diving with air as I understand it, his 95cu.ft. still had lots of gas in them, and he also had a stage of deco gas?
: This is all I can tell you at this time, I'll keep you posted...

: John
