: The piece of wood that we complained about
: was from the TWO centuries old COPPER
: "schooner" trader boat, tending the
: SUMMER needs of the FORT at Copper Harbor
: The park rangers DESTROYED WILFULLY a
: WINDLASS from this wreck by FAILING a
: chiep preservation method, outright
: refusing to PAINT the WINDLASS with
: GLYCOL ANTIFREEZE, it desintegrated into
: ant and bacteria saw dust in less than
: 7 years exposure, placed in front of the
: overnight PARK. You tell me if that was
: not willfull historical destruction?

: : {For the curious and nervous....} I have a couple of boards, given to me this summer by Marine City {officially and with their blessing...as they were dredging along the Rivers edge and pulled these up and were in the process of bashing them into little pieces to jam them behind what is now their new sea wall, when I saw them and asked for them...O.K?..now that we are clear on THAT!} I saw someone on here complaining about a piece of shipwreck in Copper Harbor, crumbling due to lack of preservation.....and glycol? was mentioned.
: : What is that? Is that is best thing I can use to preserve my boards? They will be outside {they aren't very pretty, having been partially burned at one time I think}. Any constructive ideas would be appreciated.

I hate to burst your bubble but anti freez won't do anything to the wood but kill every dear and animal that licks or chews on the wood.Animals love the taste of anti freeze
and it takes a very minor amount to kill a large animal. Not sure who started the idea that anti freeze (ethelene glycol)will preserve wood. But they are dead wrong.I am sure the DNR is well aware of the effects of anti freeze when ingested by wildlife not to mention humans. Tim
