: : I am doing a research paper for college and need to find out the following info. i cant find it anywhere all the websites i go to and books i read dont have this info. i need to know who financed her where was her keel (i dont even know whata keel is)laid, how much she cost and where when and by whom was she christened. if anyone knows this info or can tell me where to find it i would greatly appreciate it. if you know this can youu email me at Tacy79@aol.com thanks for all your help stacy

: I could just tell you where Mrs. Alexander Gracie christened her on January 27, 1906, and I could say in what country the city of Fairfield is where her keel was laid on April 10, 1905. All the information you are looking for is available in many books. I would suggest you first do a little research to learn what a keel is, and then get yourself a copy of "Forgotten Empress" by David Zeni. Read the entire book to get a good understanding of the topic. Then, since this is a research paper and not just a book report that you are writing, use the bibliography in "Forgotten Empress" to find other works on this subject. Also look up newspaper and periodical articles, look for info on Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Works, the Canadian Pacific Railway, and lots of good information can be found in the insurance records from Lloyds. Always use primary sources whenever possible.

Jim,
Elegant but effective.
