Great Lakes historians and those who seek "ships gone missing" will gather in Holland, Michigan on Saturday, April 15 for the 4th annual "Evening Beneath The Inland Seas" event sponsored by the Southwest Michigan Underwater Preserve.

The proceeds from this year's fundraiser will benefit "Shipwreck Quest 2000" an organized effort to locate shipwrecks within the borders of the recently established Southwest Michigan Underwater Preserve.

Doors will open at 6:30 PM at the historic Knickerbocker Theatre at 86 East 8th Street in downtown Holland where visitors will be treated to five separate multi-media presentations beginning at 7:00 PM. They include:

Final Port of Call - an award winning program which will set the scene for the evening.

Fire On The Lake -- The Seabird - Considered the 10th worst disaster on the Great Lakes with nearly 100 lives lost.

The St. Mary -- Overshadowed by the Lady Elgin disaster in 1860, the schooner St. Mary is now remembered.

Friday the 13th - The Mysterious Loss of the Fred E. Lee - This 70' tug was lost on a Friday the 13th in 1936 during her last voyage of the season. Her sinking remained a mystery until now!

The Steam Ship Motropole: A Dive Back Into Time - One of the most intact shipwrecks ever discovered, the Metropole offers a glimpse into the past, the opportunity to see a search in action and puts an end to the mystery of her demise.

The program runs from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The cost is $8.00 for members, $10.00 in advance by April 10 or $12.00 at the door.

Raffle tickets also will be available. Prizes include SCUBA equipment, gift certificates and books.

For further information, call 616-494-3483 (days) or 616-842-6010 (evenings).
