Your quite correct it is a rather vague term. It would applie to two vessels that are built from the same plan, and the difference you quite correctlym mention could be changes to superstructures which are concidered minor and of little consequence. But it has also been used to refer to ships of the same line etc.

: I am wondering what it means for boats to be "sister ships". I have seen boats referred to as sister ships but they don't look much like each other. Does this term mean that they were built at the same time, in the same boat yard, have some similar construction, or something else. Thanks for any help with this.
