: : : was wondering if there are dive tables made for depths of over 130 ft(decompression diving). also wondering with reference to diving the edmund fitzgerald if you can have more than 12 min downtime if you add more decompresion time. thanks

: : Yes, the Navy Dive Tables and several other tables go deeper than 130'. Yes, a properly trained diver could do more than 12 minutes at the depth of the Fitzgerald but carrying enough gas would be a limiting factor. Please get the proper training and equipment before you start making deeper dives. THERE IS NOTHING DOWN THERE WORTH DYING FOR! www.gue.com is a good place to start learning about technical diving.

: When you asked this question you demonstrated that you have got a long way to go before you start deeper diving. In addition to a variety of tables there are a number of computer programs that can generate decompression programs for a variety of gas mixes to depth like that of the Fitz. This is not a substitue forn traing but if you are interested in how it works I will send you a program if you contact me via a private E-mail. I would need your assurances that this is for educational purposes only and that your not going to mix up and try a dive like this.

In the event a diver is trained to
the use of PARTIAL-PRESSURE TABLE, and
or MIXED-GAS usage, I do not recomend
any dives below the sport level.
The deep diving "syndrome" will get you.
Read Miller's book on OXYGEN work for deep
diving, recompression requirements, but
the hazard is ASSEPTIC BONE NECROSIS,
and likely no divers is immune from
onset, specially were he has lapsed,
or ommited as much as a one minute
of decompression pursuant to the
U.S.Navy Diving Tables. Wrist type
computers may "give" you a more
managed time profile, but also a
sense of false security, regarding
various decompression problems,
specially on accent.
