: I am looking for information about two wrecks that involved major loss of life; both are located in the vicinity of Thunder Bay, off of Alpena, Michigan.

: The Isaac M. Scott - lost in the Great Storm of 1913: I have all the readily accessible information, but I am looking for more details as to the state of the wreck today. I hear it is upside down in 170 feet and half buried in mud. Has anyone done any serious diving at this site? Is there any photo or video documentation? Also, were there any newspaper articles related to this wreck? I've come across a number of Great Storm articles, but none have mentioned the Scott. Any remains ever found?

: The Pewabic, a steamer which collided with the Meteor and went down in 1865: I have seen various estimates as to the total loss of life - somewhere between 75 and 125. Does anyone have more specific information? Did the Meteor rescue some survivors? What is the current state of this wreck? Have the salvage efforts totally decimated it? Does anyone have newspaper articles from the accident?

: What has happened to the human remains on both of these wrecks?

: Thanks for any info. you can provide!

The Isaac M. Scott was found off Middle Island near Alpena, in or around 1976, the was an Alpena News article about it at that time. The "Scott was carrying a cargo of wheat when it floundered, her crew of 35 ? were lost, no evidence, bodies or wreckage ever surfaced. The best account of the wreck of the Pewabic was written by Gregory James Busch called "Lake Huron's Death Ship", the book includes details of the ship, cargo, crew, passengers, court of inquiry after the sinking and details of all salvage operations. The book may be out of print. Alpena County Library has several copies available for review. Greg
