Seeing as how Paul Gross played Benton Fraser on Due South and sang the song for the show, they probably couldn't get the rights to the Edmond Fitzgerald. The parralels between the story of that episode and the Edmomd are quite evident, and seeings how I can't find anything whatsoever on the Robert McKenzie I believe that is the answer. It is still a cool song. Actually both are.
