Did you check them to see if they were really Zebra Mussels or might they be Quagga Mussels? They look very similar but Quagga Mussels are more tolerant of deep cold environments. The easiest way to tell them apart is that Zebra Mussels have a flat bottom and Quaggas are rounded. I don't think Quaggas have been seen as far south as the Roscinco before.
