Jim,

I've researched this wreck pretty well. She is
reported on Ackerman's Lake Superior Dive Chart as
being off Pt. Abbaye by the Huron Islands. However,
this reports is incorrect. She was in fact, lost just
off Superior, Wisconsin with a load of
Sandstone from Jacobsville, Michigan in the Keweenaw.
I believe people mistakenly reported her origin point
as the location of her loss. Thus the errors.
The account of her loss in Wolff's Lake Superior
Shipwrecks is very accurate and gives good detail
on the loss. I also have a number of news clippings
related to this loss. Some years ago, divers found
what is believed to be her cargo of sandstone blocks
laying on the bottom. However, her remains have
never been found. They are thought to lie within
the area of the blocks.

Hope this helps.

: I've found several conflicting reports about the "Mayflower" schooner, on June 2,1889 foundered of south end of Madeline Island. $7,000 loss, 1 person lost. Other reports report it sinking near Superior.. Does anyone have any data to point to the correct spot?
: Thanks.
