Hi:

I am not tymbarge, the one who wrote the
non-letter, but I know about the Tym-Barge.
Until recently, it was an unidentified object
residing in waters in the Chicago turning basin
near the Chicago locks opposite the pier to
which the Columbia Yacht club boat is docked.
On May 2nd, through a group effort by The
Underwater Archeological Society of Chicago and
Towboat US, the object was relocated into Lake
Michigan to a spot 45 feet deep and 90 feet from
the unidentified South Tug. The UASC put a buoy
on it and will soon have a buoy on the tug, and
they have installed a line between the two. I
dived it May 27th in incredibly clear water. For
detailed information on the barge, who built it
and why, check our UASC web site at
www.businessform.com/uaschome.htm
I videotaped the move and hope to do a
presentation this fall at our annual shipwreck
festival at the Shedd aquarium in Chicago.
At the very least it is a small footnote to
history and a new dive site.
